A member asked:

Are std tests accurate and reliable years later (5-10+) after a "potential" exposure? are there any concerns in what specific tests to take for a full panel? thanks for your time doctor(s)?

The tests are reliable in showing that infection is absent at the time of testing. For some STDs, it is not possible to know if there was an infection in the past that now is gone. Most STDs are cleared by the immune system, even without treatment, over a few weeks or months. Herpes and HPV are exceptions, but usually harmless.
