Unfortunately, a random ASO titer in an adult could be elevated to levels we would consider worrisome in a kid. Past infections limit the usefulness of this one test in labeling something Rheumatic Fever. The ESR & CRP are nonspecific markers of inflammation and would not help with diagnosis. An internist using the current Jones criteria could consider a SF label.
