Chronic use of analgesics commonly results in tolerance, and more potent opioids will likewise do the same over time. One possible issue might involve "Post-polio Syndrome". See a neurologist who possesses experience with polio patients, and discuss appropriate medications. Physical therapy and custom bracing or leg supports might help.
