Nothing rubbed on the outside of a sore joint is highly effective. Diclofenac (Voltaren and generics) providse modest help for some patients, but most are like you, i.e. it doesn't make much difference. Other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) by mouth, like naproxen, ibuprofen and many more usually are more effective. Keep working with your doctor. Good luck.
