No doc needed: Sounds like significant muscle injury. Use crutches if necessary to rest and walk normally. Ice for 72hours then heat/ice. Light stretching. Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain 72 hours then advil/aleve. Compression short. Should begin therapy to strengthen muscles when pain free. Progress through jogging, sprinting, cutting prior to sports return.

Yes: You have pulled your groin or adductor muscles. If this is significant tear, you should consider see an orthopedic surgeon. Especially if you want to continue to play. Rest, and ice. Take a short course of over the counter anti-inflammatories (if you are not sensitive to them, like advil) usually at 2 weeks after injury i start a course of therapy with stretches and modalities ( e-stim and u/s).

Yes.: It is not possible to properly diagnose the extent of the injury without a physical examination, even in the digital age. If there is bruising tracking down the leg, the muscle is at least partially torn. Evaluating range of motion and extent of ecchymosis as well as palpation of the tissue is necessary to make the correct diagnosis and to determine the best treatment.
