Which is more effective in killing acne bacteria: benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid?

They differ: Benzoyl peroxide is an astringent that is used to kill surface bacteria. Salicylic acid does not kill bacteria it breaks down pore plugs formed by skin oil and skin cells. The main cause of acne is a change in skin cells from testosterone stimulation.

Skin bacteria: Benzoyl peroxide kills acne bacteria and makes acne better, but it may not kill other bacteria that cause infection and disease. You need to find out which germ, if any, is causing your skin problem. Salicylic acid peels that skin and is used for thick rough areas, like warts, callouses and rough feet.
