Im sick with something and i woke up in the middle of the night with a really painful sore throat at the base of my neck/top of chest. it was sharp everytime i swallowed. i woke up and it was gone. what does that mean?

It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. However, what you described suggests drying of the air ways due to inhaling warm dry air. Using a humidifier may help.
