A member asked:

Does verapamil cause orthostatic hypertension (e.g. systolic pressure up 28mmhg ftom supine to standing)? if not, what are the common causes of new onset of orthostatic hypertension? is it related to recent near-syncope episode during exercise?

It can tho not commonly. With your history you need a thro exam by your doc to find cause. Good luck.

Verapamil lowers BP by reducing heart rate& relaxing tension in the arterioles. BP can normally increase on going from supine to standing position but rise shouldn't be much more than 10 points, usually in the diastolic reading. Verapamil shouldn't cause this. How long does the BP remain high before dropping back? I feel near syncope during exercise warrants a treadmill stress test off verapamil
