A member asked:

I have been using the combined oral contraceptive pill now for a month and a half, to skip my period, and lately i have been experiencing rather heave breakthrough bleeding. can i double my dose to stop it? i'm on the 20mg pill right now?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bleeding during a combined bcp cycle is usually because of taking an active pill later than a 24hour period elapsed from the last active pill. The low dose type of bcp's require taking w/in the hour of the previous pill. Best is to stop this cycle, wait 5-6 days and resume with a new pack.
