A member asked:

Took genatmicin and ofloxacin eye drops for bilateral conjunctivitis for two weeks, prescribed from my ophthalmologist. no improvement. a conjunctival swab was taken 36h after stopping antibiotic drops. was the swab taken too early to be accurate?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Conjunctival swabs after antibiotic use will be of no value. Two weeks of antibiotics is sufficient to kill almost anything, at this point continued redness and discharge is most likely conjunctivitis medicamentosa (toxic conjunctivitis). I would get a second opinion.
