Had a ultrasound of my chest today the tech said its just a cyst. are they common? do they have to be removed? its up above my breast to the left of my sternum. it does hurt sometimes. should i get a second opinion? i had a chest x-ray also?

Is the cyst located in the lung tissue? if so, a thoracic CT scan often is helpful. Otherwise a soft tissue cyst may be an infection, benign or malignant lesion. Pathology will be performed on the tissue. Discuss whether a CT and guided biopsy is possible. Watch for signs of infection and increase in the size of the cyst.

The tech reading is not an official reading. Please have your radiologist read the ultrasound. If the cyst is in the breast without any suspicious look, surveillance ultrasound may be indicated. Check with the physician that ordered the ultrasound
