A member asked:

I got off the depo shot the beginning of august and never got my period back. now ive been bleeding for three weeks. what is going on?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The "depo shot" is long acting progestin (synthetic progesterone), and may inhibit ovulation over long intervals, causing higher estrogen levels to thicken the endometrium. Once discontinued, the shedding excess endometrium will result in extended bleeding, and ovulation will again resume once off the effects of the "depo shot". See your GYN physician for effective birth control .
