A member asked:

Can gerd make liquids come up your esophagus? i'm not choking and i can still eat and talk, it's just a sensation there for me. but can this happen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes. By definition, GERD is a disorder where a backwash of stomach acids (in liquid) travels up the swallow tube, irritating the tissue & causing symptoms. A loose or weak closure of the stomach entrance is part of the cause. Caffeine weakens the closure and laying down after feeds adds stress to the stomach entrance. The stomach is a muscular organ that mixes food with contractions.
