A member asked:

Had blood with stool, went to doctor and had a fit test and blood test. my fit test was negative for the presence of occult blood and there was no anaemia. what is my risk of colorectal cancer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bright red blood on/in stool is from near the outlet & often due to a scratch/fissure at the outlet. Darkened/maroon or blackened blood is from higher up where digestive enzymes have acted on it before it exits. By itself your cited event yields no information about your cancer risk. A negative test for occult blood goes against it. Your age doesn't increase or totally exclude the possibility.
