It has been stated that it would require daily heavy drinking of a pint of hard liquor, 7-8 pints of beer or 4-5 pints of wine. I regard this as a guideline as I'm sure there are exceptions to these amounts.

Key is the presence of habituation and tolerance secondary to daily drinking. Sudden cessation of alcohol results in withdrawal from 6-96 hours, seizures often prior to DTs.
