I have confirmed femoral acetabular impingement (fai) on my right hip (x-ray/mri). is it reasonable to still play soccer if i can manage the pain?

Yes: It is certainly reasonable to continue participating if you are not in much pain and feel that you are able to perform at the level you expect. There is some thought that fai can predispose you to osteoarthritis at a younger age. It is important to discuss this with an orthopedist to include possible physical therapy as well.

Too painful stop: This depends on how severe the impingement was noted during arthroscopy. If mild to moderate it is reasonable to continue with therapy at home and anticipate in soccer unless the pain as and showing the ability to run and function is decreasing. Continued participation in soccer with pain will likely lead to earlier arthritic changes.

Impingement sport: It's is reasonable to continue playing. However there is some evidence that this condition may lead to early arthritis and deterioration of the joint. You should consult with your orthopaedics about correcting the condition then returning to sport following rehabilitation.
