Menstrual cycles can fluctuate from month to month depending on hormone fluctuation caused by stress, weight loss/gain, exercise, and lack of sleep, even while on oral contraceptives. It is not usually a concern if this happens once or twice. If your cycles cause increased bleeding or you stop bleeding you may want to talk to you Dr about the situation and have a thorough exam and lab tests.

The most common cause of bleeding while on oral bcp's is not maintaining punctuality. Take the active pills within the hour of the prior day's active pill. Cervical inflammation can cause bleeding after sexual activity. See your GYN physician for an exam if this pattern continues.
