Big toe pain over 10yrs. no bunion, never swollen, no reduced movement or range, uric acid is fine, it just hurts badly sometimes. recently feels like pain moving backwards into foot. what could this be and what imaging would you suggest?

It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see a doctor or a podiatrist. Wish you good health!

You could have hallux limitus. Normal bone normal foot structure is present. It has to to do with first ray function. When weight bearing the first metatarsal elevated causing jamming big toe joint. Custom orthotics supporting first cuneiform joint to allow first metatarsal plantarflextion allowing normal motion first metatarsal phalangeal joint
