A member asked:

I have been losing a lot of weight in a short period of time..over 20lbs in the last month (3lbs since tuesday) i am not trying to lose weight, but i did change my diet due to finances, should i see my doctor regarding this weight loss?

I would. That amount of weight loss suggests a significant medical problem. Treatments are always more effective early in a condition. Write down all you can remember about how/when this started with a timeline. Add any symptoms or other observations. Take the list with you to a doc visit so you don't omit details that are important. Go soon.

Yes, a medical assessment will be needed for the significant rate you are losing weight at, that will become life threatening if not addressed. Starting with your treating doc will be best.

Agree with Dr. Ferguson. Unintended weight loss is a cause for concern and you should consult a gastroenterologist at your earliest. Wish you good health!
