A subdural hematoma is collection of blood in the skull found after head trauma or ruptured aneurysm, is seen on a CT of the skull, it is usually drained if symptomatic (headache,alterations in consciousness) to prevent increased cerebral pressure.

This is not simple, as bleeding over the surface of the brain can be a chronic resolving condition, an acute life threatening critical issue, or a variation between. Surgical decompression is usually performed. Steroids were once thought useful, but disappointing outcomes have been observed.
