A member asked:

Can you have chronic weil's disease for years? or would it only be an acute infection? thanks?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Although Weil's disease is mostly an acute disease , there are reports of cases with long term problems like eye infections and inflammation , besides migraines, chronic fatigue and depression , due to the persistence of the causative agent(leptospire) in the eye and brain . It may need monitoring for about 5 yrs after the infection, with repeated courses of treatment as needed .
