I have a bad cough and its causing me to lose sleep at night and it hurts bad when i start coughing. would they most commonly prescribe me promethazine with codeine along with antibiotics?

The cause of cough needs to determined and treated. The medications you mention may not be the appropriate ones. You may try steam/water vapor inhalation to help in clearing respiratory secretions. Wish you good health!
