The ears will pop when the Eustachian tube straightens and air rushes in to release a vacuum. The process can hurt initially but usually settles down. By itself it does not represent infection, just a prior loss of normal air balance in the middle ear from a closed tube. If the pain does not subside, contact your doc for guidance.
