A member asked:

I had optic neuritis had mri diagnosed with cis. 8year later still have episodes of on and numbness/weakness also achalasia. neurologist says no connection as no change of progression to ms as symptoms are similar to before. is it possible to be ms?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sometimes, it is difficult to fully confirm MS, and therefore, additional testing may be needed. A lumbar puncture may reveal oligoclonal bands, and if present, this could confirm your diagnosis. Achalasia would be a co-morbidity, not a sign of MS progression or relapse. As mentioned previously, a disease modifying agent might be considered, and a second opinion might be sought.
