A member asked:

Does having a "reduced immune system regulation" make your body unable to detect cancer/foreign cells?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The immune system has many parts, but all can be thought of as sentries at the gates that keeps invaders from entering the body to cause harm. There are conditions that arise when these "sentries" attack normal cells, like those causing auto-immune diseases like certain skin disorders. Certain meds reduce the attack on normal cells, but in doing so, decrease part of the body's defenses.
