A member asked:

Can diastasis recti be prevented during pregnancy - even with six-pack abs and 122 lb, 5'4'? and is it possible to feel sore abs during 14 week? slight belly bulge, it's sore as if i did 100 sit ups?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Diastasis recti is normal and allows the abdomen to accommodate the growing pregnancy. It may not occur if your abdominal muscles are sufficiently elastic, but the six-pack abs may be less flexible and may make you more susceptible. Your current soreness probably reflects the muscles stretching. If a diastasis does develop further abdominal exercises will make it worse.
