Depending upon the extent of the compression fracture, a relatively noninvasive vertebroplasty procedure may be indicated. However, in your case, it might be better to merely allow healing over several weeks. Would suggest consultation from a spine surgeon, and a second opinion if surgery is advised.

Firstly, I want to mention that mild height loss of L5 can be normal variant (especially posterior height loss) and this variant height loss can be mistaken for fracture. Secondly further evaluation would be helpful…Seeing a spine specialist for a full spine/neuro exam, getting an MRI to confirm fracture and assess for edema, and seeing a radiologist, surgeon, or PMR doc for kyphoplasty consult
