If your girlfriend has been on schedule with her depo provera shots, she should be continually protected from pregnancy. Of course, the shots do not protect from diseases. On the other hand, if you are ever unsure about pregnancy prevention, you could add wearing a condom to improve your chances of complete protection.

"Depo" shots do convey an excellent contraceptive effect, but occasional ovulation may occur, as well as withdrawal bleeding. The protection is usually effective for a month or so AFTER the next due depo-progestin shot in the 94-96% range, but pregnancy is always statistically possible. Obtain a serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy.
