You don't. Chronic smokers lose much of the sensory endings in their nose. If they are forced to go cigarette free for about 5-7 days they regain this function & begin to smell the acrid smell of smoke on clothing and their vehicle. Sometimes this will show them what others smell when their around and trigger a change. A smoker cessation program with medical assistance can help many.
