A year after having a blood draw the site still itches--why?

Itch scratch cycle. It may have initially done so during healing but the mechanical effect of your scratching the site can create tissue injury that then itches during recovery, followed by scratching/itching/etc. Try covering the site when possible with a loose bandage & avoiding scratching. A cold compress can transiently stop an itch. If you break the cycle it should fade.

You may be allergic to the bandage that was applied to the site of blood draw. Do not scratch and give it a couple of days. If that does not help, you may try over the counter cortisone cream. Wish you good health!

After one year the area should not have an irritation. Consult a dermatologist for exam and treatment.
