A member asked:

An np prescribed me cortisporin otic solution after seeing that i had some scaliness inside ear. however, i have no pain with movement of ear lobe and mostly no itchiness. is cortisporin necessary in this case? i am concerned because it is ototoxic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The solution contents are not ototoxic if your eardrum is intact which would have been evident on exam. Only if the potentially harmful ingredients enter the sensitive membranes of the middle ear would that be a problem. Use or don't use as you wish. The med has been in common use for that problem for more than 4 decades for ages infant to adults .
