A member asked:

I just read about nongonococcal arthritis. is that also an acute infection, or can it cause ongoing problems like joint pain and swelling?

That means the arthritis was not from gonococci but from another organism. Acute means of sudden onset. If treated adequately in the majority of cases there is complete recovery. Suggest stay away from such reading and avoid worry.

Arthritis is joint inflammation due to a number of causes autoimmune, mechanical or infection .The infections can be from different organism one being gonorrhea but there can be other organisms including viruses. As an arthritis it can cause joint swelling and pain. if infectious it needs prompt treatment as it can progress and destroy the joint and cause full body infection. f/u/ w/ MD
