I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and have been taking prescribed methadone 40mg my entire pregnancy. i would really like to stop taking the medication before giving birth so it does not affect the baby after birth. how can i safely do so?

Unfortunately, the withdrawal from methadone may adversely influence the course of your pregnancy with respect to your fetus, and incremental decrease in methadone will not prevent having to treat your newborn for addictive effects of methadone.
