A member asked:

Hallo, sorry, for the follow up question. when my ob-gyn checked the position of my copper iud with transvaginal ultrasound, would he have noticed a pregnancy without searching for one? could he miss a 7-8 weeks pregnancy during this ultrasound?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hello The copper IUD is supposed to prevent pregnancy. Contraceptives may alter the menstrual periods and may not mean pregnancy. The transvaginal ultrasound is sensitive and less likely than abdominal ultrasound to miss pregnancy and it gives a better picture of the uterus and what is inside. If you are thinking of getting pregnant then discuss with your ObG so the IUD could be removed.
