A member asked:

Does reactive hypoglycemia hurts a fetus? i'm 21 weeks pregnant and have reactive hypoglycemia. i notice after i eat sweets my baby moves and kicks, but i don't feel him moving much when i'm not eating sweets or carbs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The blood sugar drops with reactive hypoglycemia will not measurably affect the baby, but you should really back off the sweets to avoid triggering the problem in the first place. The baby's increased movements are actually a response to the initial blood sugar increase when you eat the sweets. Doing this repeatedly is unwise and unnecessarily exposes the baby to higher glucose levels.
