A member asked:

Are pencil thin black stools normal and expected after taking linzess for constipation? no bm for 12 days prior to linzess, ct showed large fecal load with no obstruction. symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating, incomplete evacuation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

In your case the thin stools are not indicative of an obstructing growth or scarred narrow area in the descending colon.in view of the CT scan findings. I assume your stools are not always pencil thin. I'm sure you've been advised to include fiber in your diet and drink lots of fluids daily. Black stools can be caused by taking iron, peptobismolor or bleeding from high up in the stomach or duodenum
