I believe that ultrasonic humidifiers are somewhat higher maintenance. Because they emit water droplets instead of water vapor you should use distilled water to avoid spreading contaminants like minerals, bacteria,mold,etc. Also water can collect near them.They are quite effective though if you're willing to observe those recommendations for maintenance.
