A member asked:

Is it possible tk catch an ms flare up on mri then later lesions are gone? my first mri has brain lesions and others do not. it said possibly demyelinating disease. but my other mri was clear of that. i have severe fatigue and weakness?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Serial MRI studies done at NIH have revealed that MS lesions do fluctuate, but some become permanent. The acute T1 gadolinium positive ones last about 4 weeks, but the T2 lesions are chronic and persistent. Depending upon software, the imaging may show lesions in white matter and grey matter, the latter area lesions far briefer. Perhaps, a spinal tap may be needed to fully assess.
