"Cold sores" represent outbreaks of Herpes I or II virus. Treatment is with antiviral meds (acyclovir, Valtrex). These ulcers are communicable, and there is no "preventive cream", etc., to stop emergence. Taking antivirals when symptoms first appear will decrease the effects sooner. Stress (emotional, school, work) can activate these viruses to produce the ulcers.
