A member asked:

Is it possible for a baby born to a woman with hpv vires type16 to transmit hpv vires in the placenta?(the" ncbi.nlm.nih.gov" website states that this could happen) is there any chance of this happening?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

In medicine we are taught to never say never. That said I have not seen this reported as happening in 4 decades as a pediatrician. If you remain paranoid with any level of risk don't have babies. There is a baseline risk of 4% of any pregnancy having some sort of unexpected outcome. including genetic/birth defect/premi/etc. Genital HPV transmission appears to require skin to skin genital contact.
