A member asked:

Is withdrawal bleeding from birth control considered a normal period? not pregnant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A "normal period" ("bleeding") occurs via cessation of hormone production by the ovaries for shedding of the endometrial lining. The same mechanism (by stopping the active bcp pill) will cause withdrawal bleeding, although the amount of bleeding is less, secondary to the lower amounts of hormones in the oral contraceptives.
