The term epilepsy is used to describe sudden uncontrolled electrical activity in the brain that triggers abnormal movements or other activity. There may or may not be a discoverable abnormality on any scan or test.

Have NO clue why an expensive metabolic study would be needed to "rule out epilepsy"! Basically, diagnosis of epilepsy is a clinical conclusion based upon history and confirmed by imaging, EEG, blood testing, etc. Have NEVER found it necessary to order a PET scan study in my epileptic patients over a 50 yr practice.

I had a 10 hour eeg, was completely normal AND I had 2 of my episodes during the eeg, but the neuro says the test was normal, does this rule out epilepsy since my events did not cause abnormal brain activity?
Im confused! My neuro says it would be best to redo my 24 hour eeg (since I didnt sleep) even though I had 2 of my deja vu episodes ON recording and the result of the eeg was normal? I thought this would RULE OUT epilepsy causing my events then?
