Inversion ankle sprains are the most common type of ankle sprain (when the ankle bends outward.) They can cause limping, pain, swelling and bruising due stretching and slight tearing of the ligaments. There can be tenderness around the ankle bone. If you had trouble walking after an sprain, you may need an x-ray to rule out a fracture. Self care includes rest, ice, compression, and elevation.

If an event occurred, and now your ankle is painful, stiff, swollen, and/or bruised, you could have a sprain or even fracture. Get this checked out if you are having too much discomfort while standing or walking.
