We usually use the word reliable when we mean specificity in testing. If the HIV DNA PCR is positive, the specificity (reliability) is almost 100% at 16 days. However, if you mean reliable by detecting the disease (sensitivity) the sensitivity is around 90% at 16 days after exposure but almost 100% after 90 days.
