Why does my chest hurt after getting over the flu?

Depending on the severity of the respiratory component of influenza, and the degree of coughing , the accessory muscles used for coughing can give rise to muscle soreness. If what was experienced was COVID-19, instead of "the flu", there is a strong respiratory component to COVID-19, especially if not fully vaccinated.

Musculoskeletal pain due to strain during cough is most likely. A heating pad applied locally to the effected area and ibuprofen may help.If the pain persists or worsens, please see your physician. Watch for shortness of breath.
