A member asked:

Dad recently diagnosed with mds. treated with azacitadine and venetoclax. test results good so far w/no sign of blasts. genetic testing revealed idh mutation, but not sure on specific idh. is that mutation hereditary or does it happen at random?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Myelodysplastic disorders (MDS) are related to mutations and are spontaneous changes, but generally not heritable specifically, but the tendency to mutations may occur as a heritable trait, which may not be active in every individual, and in that sense, it is a random occurrence.
