A member asked:

I recently tested positive for the toxoplasmosis igg antibody. how long after testing positive does someone have to wait and get tested for the igm antibody in order to tell whether the exposure to toxoplasmosis is either a recent or past infection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, if the IgG antibody is positive you are beyond the stage of a nascent infection. There is no reason to test for IgM antibody. IgG antibody does not mean there is any disease.
