A member asked:

Ct of head without contrast showed minimal atherosclerotic calcifications of the carotid siphons. is this a predictor of a disease or should i be concerned and have another test performed? the ct was done due to prolonged headaches of 4 days?

Unless you are having transient ischemic attacks, or a prior stroke, the described findings would be most consistent with some aging, and would not be a finding to provoke alarm. Use of preventative medication would be based upon clinical co-morbidities. Due to the CAT scan results and headaches, do obtain neurology consultation.

4 days of headaches is not prolonged. 4 months, maybe. There are algorithms for estimating your chances of getting progressive disease based on age, race, sex, family history, and other modifiable and unmodifiable risk factors. The CT is not the patient; you are. You are more than the sum of your parts.
