Vitamin C Ascorbic acid is absorbed into the blood stream from the small intestine where it depends upon Sodium to cross the gut wall. If consumed with a meal gastric emptying has to occur before asborbtion occurs, that is usually after the third hour depending on the amount of food consumed.
