Contraceptive injections typically contain progesterone which changes your base level hormones to prevent pregnancy. During the time where your body is getting used to the change in hormones, and the hormones are adjusting to new levels, you may experience break through bleeding and spotting. This typically goes away in 3-6 months. After that you may experience lighter or no periods.
